Do you have a background in waste management or retail? Are you looking for a retail challenge while learning about waste management?
Borough of Poole has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Development Officer to work at new to you, Cabot Lane.
new to you is a Borough of Poole shop selling items salvaged from our household recycling centres. In addition to preparing the shop on a weekly basis, the scheme helps to support local people through a social support scheme and gives volunteering opportunities.
Working 25 hours a week including Saturdays, you will be responsible for all aspects of shop and volunteer management including recruiting, managing, training and rotas. Shop duties include preparing stock, visual merchandising, some manual handling and running the shop on trading days which will include cash handling. You will also be handling enquiries for the social support scheme. You will provide a high level of customer service to customers, face to face, on the phone and in writing.
As part of the Environmental Development team including Open Spaces you’ll be committed to improving Poole’s environment. It would be an advantage to have experience or knowledge of waste disposal, but it is more important that you are an excellent communicator, a strong team player and get things done! You will fully engage in working towards the Council’s purpose and values.
The Environmental Development Officer will play an active role in a multi-skilled team and there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your own skills and contribute to the direction of the service.
