We require an enthusiastic person to join our Safer Communities Team as a Safer Communities Officer on a temporary contract until 31st March 2019.

You will have some experience of working with people who have complex needs or exhibit challenging behaviour.  You will be committed to high standards of customer care, to putting the victim at the centre of all you do and to have a can do attitude.

Safer Communities Officers focus on identifying, supporting and protecting vulnerable victims of anti-social behaviour, investigating complaints and challenging the perpetrators. In some cases you may have to prepare legal files and attend court as a witness. This post primarily covers the busy town centre, but may involve other areas, dealing with neighbour nuisance, street drinkers and young people displaying challenging behaviours, therefore you will need a resilient attitude. You will also enforce the Public Spaces Protection Orders and engage with young people, rough sleepers and those who beg in the town centre.

The successful candidate will have empathy and compassion for victims whilst demonstrating firmness and authority when dealing with perpetrators and also have a good understanding of working in partnership with others. Some knowledge and understanding of anti-social behaviour is preferred but experience of dealing effectively and creatively with difficult people and challenging situations is essential.

For an informal discussion about this post please contact Ian Cooke on 01202 363516.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for the role.

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the community and expects all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. Applicants to this post will be required to complete the appropriate level of Disclosure & Barring Service Check. Please refer to the Person Specification for more details.
